What is a Houdini Stop?
The Houdini Stop Chest Strap is a simple but effective solution to stop children from slipping their arms out of their car seat or buggy harness. It consists of two clips joined by a short length of durable material, which attach securely over the existing harness straps. Once fitted, it holds the straps in place and keeps your child safely harnessed, reducing the risk of them wriggling free.

What Size Harness Does It Fit?
The Houdini Stop is designed to fit any single-layer harness strap up to 38mm wide, making it a universal accessory for most car seats, buggies, and highchairs.

Is It Safe?
Yes. The Houdini Stop has been safety tested at the Autoliv Test Facility in Melbourne, Australia, in line with the AS/NZC 1754 Standard. Testing confirmed that:

  • It does not interfere with the performance of the harness.

  • It does not move upwards or make contact with the throat area.

  • It releases under specific test conditions, ensuring it can be quickly undone in an emergency.

Is It Legal?
Yes. The Houdini Stop has been officially tested and reviewed by ACRI and is legally permitted as an aftermarket accessory. While there is currently no specific safety standard for this type of product, the manufacturer intends to apply for certification as soon as a standard becomes available.

Can It Replace an Existing Chest Clip?
Yes – the Houdini Stop is universal and can be used as a replacement for an existing chest clip. However, it should not be used alongside another chest clip. Please ensure any original chest clip is completely removed before fitting the Houdini Stop.

Will It Work for My Little Houdini?
With a success rate of over 95%, the Houdini Stop works for most children. Its release mechanism is designed to be easy for adults to open in an emergency, but too tricky for most toddlers. Many parents report that once introduced, children actually enjoy having the Houdini Stop fitted and ask for it every time!
